چکیده
Cohesive particulate flows play an important role in environmental fluid dynamics, as well a wide variety of civil and process engineering applications. However, the scaling laws, constitutive equations continuum field descriptions governing such are currently less understood than for their non-cohesive counterparts. Grain-resolved simulations represent essential tool addressing this shortcoming, along with theoretical investigations, laboratory experiments studies. Here we provide tutorial introduction to fine-grained sediments viscous fluids, overview some representative insights that approach has yielded date. After brief review key physical concepts van der Waals forces main cohesive effect subaqueous sediment suspensions, discuss incorporation into particle-resolved based on immersed boundary method. We subsequently describe particles several model turbulent flows, which demonstrate emergence statistical equilibrium between growth break-up aggregates. As next step, influence settling behaviour dense before moving submerged granular collapses. Throughout article, highlight open research questions whose investigation may benefit from grain-resolved simulations.

متن کاملone-dimensional numerical model of cohesive sediment transport in open channel flow
cohesive sediment transport remains a complicated subject that hydraulic engineers are frequently faced with in water-related engineering problems. this is primarily affected by the macroscopic aspects of water-sediment system characteristics. in this paper a 1-d mathematical model was developed to be employed in predicting the cohesive sediment transport under simultaneous conditions of erosio...

متن کاملStochastic Flocculation Model for Cohesive Sediment Suspended in Water
Existing flocculation models for cohesive sediments are classified into two groups: population balance equation models (PBE) and floc growth models. An FGM ensures mass conservation in a closed system. However, an FGM determines only the average size of flocs, whereas a PBE has the capability to calculate a size distribution of flocs. A new stochastic approach to model the flocculation process ...
